1. Can an exception be made for certain applicants regarding the eligibility criteria to the the research grant and Excellence3 award?
The eligibility requirements – academic, scientific, etc. – are designed and maintained by the Independent Scientific Advisory Board. These criteria have been carefully designed to attract appropriate candidates at a certain level in their professional development. In keeping with the purpose and intention of the research grants and Excellence3 awards, applicants must meet all the criteria in order to be considered for the grant. Submissions outside these parameters will not be considered.

2. Is Dutch citizenship required in order to apply for the research grant and Excellence3 award?
An applicant for the research grants and Excellence3 award must be a citizen or a non-citizen national of the Netherlands; have been lawfully admitted to the Netherlands for permanent residence and have a permanent visa; or have legally declared intent to become a citizen and provide appropriate documentation with his or her application. Visiting scientists or fellows are NOT eligible.

3. What may the Excellence3 award funds be used for?
The awarded sum should be used to facilitate a scientific and/or clinical rotation abroad (i.e. not for personal gain).The grant may also be used to cover incidental laboratory supplies and expenses and travel expenses to scientific meetings.

4. How may the research grants be used?
In the interest of the performing the proposed (pilot) study, funds may be used to cover salary as well as other direct expenses incurred during the research project. This includes the salary of a technical/clinical associate; the purchase of relevant laboratory equipment; direct expenses necessary for proper conduct of research; and travel expenses to scientific meetings. The Foundation cannot provide the university with allowance for indirect costs

5. Will I receive a copy of the board’s evaluation of my grant/award proposal?
No. Unfortunately, we are not able to provide applicants – either grant recipients or those not receiving grants – with comments by the Independent Scientific Advisory Board. Our objective is to keep our administrative costs as low as possible, preserving the bulk of our budget for actual grants.
